Recently, WREN engineers visited a power plant to conduct on-site measurements of steam turbine bolts. Bolt connections on the turbine body are critical for ensuring equipment sealing performance and structural integrity, demanding exceptional professionalism and precision during installation and removal. While routine bolts typically don't require on-site measurement, this project involved specialized bolts requiring disassembly. Comprehensive on-site measurement is mandatory before deploying hydraulic torque wrenches.

This measurement is essential because hydraulic torque wrenches are not “universal tools.” Their model selection and torque parameter settings must align with bolt specifications, installation locations, spatial constraints, and other operational conditions. Failure to measure bolt spacing and operational clearance height may result in purchased hydraulic torque wrenches being “too large to fit” or “unable to turn.”

On-site, WREN engineers surveyed the core parameters of turbine bolts (specifications, length and protrusion, material and strength grade, visual condition), spatial environment (operational dimensions, obstacle identification), and equipment status to ensure precise and comprehensive data.
Following the survey, WREN engineers consulted with equipment maintenance personnel, hydraulic tool operators, and technical supervisors to verify data consistency, preventing operational issues caused by information discrepancies.


These hydraulic tools—including hydraulic torque wrenches and sockets—were specifically selected for the operational environment.


Hydraulic torque wrenches are the primary hydraulic tools used in current bolting operations. Only through comprehensive and precise on-site surveying can the advantages of hydraulic torque wrenches be fully realized, preventing issues such as “tool mismatch,” “torque deviation,” and “safety risks.”
